The heater core in Saab 9-3 is a key component of the heating system. However, it is less common but not rare for this vehicle to have a heater core leak.
This guide will help you understand the steps required to fix a heater core leak in a Saab 9-3.
Required Tools
- Screwdriver set
- Wrench set
- Drain pan
- New heater core
- Antifreeze coolant
- Safety gloves
Steps to Fix a Heater Core Leak
-
Prepare the Vehicle
Start by disconnecting the battery. Once this is done, drain the cooling system into the drain pan by removing the drain plug located under the radiator.
-
Remove the Dash
After removing the battery, you have clear access to the dashboard. Use your screwdriver set to remove the dash clamps holding it securely in place. This will allow you to reach the heating and cooling unit housing.
-
Remove the Heater Core
Inside the heating and cooling system, remove the clamps keeping the heater core in place, and remove the core itself. Keep a drain pan ready as removing the heater core may release some coolant.
-
Install the New Heater Core
Once the old heater core has been removed, you can replace it with the new one. Make sure it is securely fitted and clamped.
-
Reassemble the Dash
With the new core in place, refit the dash using the screws previously removed. Ensure it is securely tightened.
-
Refill the Radiator
Finally, refill your radiator with antifreeze coolant, and connect the battery to finish the procedure.
